The ones that left too soon

With the recent death of Anna Nicole Smith at the age of 39, which is pretty young, it makes me wonder if really big movie stars, musicians and tabliod stars die young for the same reason, fame.

Take for example Kurt Cobain, the lead singer for Nirvana. He died at the age of 27. He committed suicide.

Jimi Hendrix is another example that comes to mind. He was also 27 when he died. (I’m not clear on how he died- possibly an overdose).

Chris Farley (the funniest person I have seen on SNL) died at the age of 33 from an apparent drug overdose.

Then you have John Lennon who died at the age of 40 from a gun shot wound.

With this list of people who died relativly young. Some may ask the question as to why?
There is no one answer for any of these. The truth is, fame did hurt all of these people. The odds of John Lennon being shot and killed were far greater than if he was not famous.

I can’t stand it when people say there is a curse. For example Hendrix and Cobain dying at the same age. In the whole history of the universe, it was bound to happen, meaning to famous rock singers dying at the same age.

The reason that these people died young is vast. Maybe it was the pressure of being a celebrity, or maybe the pressure to be someone they were not.

Psychological factors could have been a factor, or just plain bad luck, or even natural causes.

No matter how they died, I think fame had something to do with it.

With celebrity comes a price, but it shouldn’t have too. If people are talented enough, then why not flaunt it? It’s like saying if you want to live a long time, then don’t become a celebrity.

People only have a certain amount of control over who they become. The rest is up to everyone else in the world.

It’s “the ones WHO left too soon.”

The deaths of Cobain and Smith are unfortuate, but not particularly noteworthy — especially in the case of Smith, who seemed to lack any abilities save removing her clothing.

It is hard to feel to sorry for Smith who was given so much and blew it. She was famous for her looks and was able to capitalize on it. Unfortunately she was obviously a troubled and drug-addicted soul who couldn’t keep it together and finally did herself in.

What a waste, but what a lesson to the rest of us– if we would only look and learn. That seems to be the case for the rest of the fore-mentioned celebs as well. Fame and fortune doesn’t come with any guarantees.

It all speaks to the tragic effects fame can have. Add to your list John Belushi, Jim Morrison, Karen Carpenter, Marvin Gaye, Keith Moon, Sid Vicious and more.

I do feel badly for Anna Nicole. She was an impoverished young woman of not-great intelligence who found a way to get the attention she thought she wanted. It’s pretty clear that she had some mental problems, but the people in her life exploited her instead of helping her. She got swept up in the tabloid stuff pretty quickly and never managed to find a way out. She obviously had no real support system or help – as evidenced by all the “friends” and “family” of hers who are now on TV trashing her. Now this post-mortem fight is gaining steam. They’re literally fighting over her dead body. It’s just horrible.

I think what happens is that they get the fame so soon and then eventually they really don’t have any thing to work towards or look forward to as a goal in life. As a result of this they end up getting depressed. Too much too soon and nothing left to look forward to. Normally in the avg person like you and me it takes some time to achieve our goals and then when it is achieved there is some satisfaction from it. We appreciate things that we work hard for. With many celebs they don’t need to work as hard to get what they want and as a result it probably isn’t appreciated as much. Things are too easy for them in that way since they have money to get or do what they want. After a while life probably gets pretty boring for them so then they fall into the drugs, booze ect…

I have noticed that many of these celebrities have a hard time dealing with the stress of the fame and/or they get into the partying too much and as a result they get hooked onto the alcohol and drugs.

I think the combination of these things is what makes them end up dying so young.

As long as we’re on the subject…don’t forget Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin…both died at 27.

I’d like to think of it as the planet weeding out the morons. Whether or not they were geniuses in thier particular idiom, in the end, they’re dead for a reason wholeheartedly opposite — their stupidity.

Somebody gets murdered, maybe then they’re gone too soon. These people…they left right on time. In fact, some of them might have been here too long.

    See ya!

I completely agree with you on the fame and dying young. Look at Michael Jackson. That weirdo probably would still be alive if he wasn’t famous.
